Tonight the Columbia School Board considered a suggestion from the administration to join some other districts in Jackson County by attending school for half days this week. The superintendent and a representative of the Columbia Education Association, agreed to alter the school calendar by scheduling half days on Thursday and Friday, in addition to our traditional Wednesday half day. Not only will this address the affects of the heat on children wearing masks while riding busses, it will give our teachers an opportunity to review and reflect their first days of school during this critical time.

We are so excited to welcome back our Little Eagles for the 2020-2021 school year. Please view the attached letter for very important information that you may find helpful as we get our school year started. Our first half day of school is Wednesday, August 26th. Dismissal window is from 10:50 - 11:20 a.m.

1st and 2nd Grade Open House is an outdoor event. Please limit guest to immediate family, if possible. You can meet your classroom teacher, meet the virtual teacher, apply for free/reduced lunch, get transportation information and see our newly finished playground project!
Families who have signed up for virtual learning for their child are invited to meet Mrs. Rentschler, who will be at an outside table.
Virtual Learners at CES
Students who are virtual learners who need to borrow a device, please fill out the technology form below and pay $40 for insurance. Insurance for families who qualify for free/reduced lunch is $5. Devices can be picked up on Wednesday, August 26th from 1-3 p.m. under the covered porch front entrance at CES.
In Person Learners at CES
Students who are In Person learners who need to borrow a device, should we go to distance learning at some point in the year, please fill out the technology form and pay $40 for insurance. Insurance for families who qualify for free/reduced lunch is $5. Our ISD technology team will prepare those students' assigned devices with the appropriate filters so if/when the student is required to switch to distance learning they can take their device home. We use our devices daily at CES so chrome books for In Person Learners remain at school unless distance learner occurs. If the student is never required to switch to distance learning, the money will not be refunded.

We would like to avoid handling paper copies due to the spread of Covid-19. If you do not have access to the Internet, please feel free to turn in a paper copy. Columbia's Kindergarten Open House is on Tuesday, August 11th from 5-7 p.m. It is an outdoor event. If you know a child who will turn 5 by December 1st, 2020, this Open House is for them! Information will be available for In Person learning and our Virtual Learning option. For more details, please see the attached flyer. We look forward to seeing you!

Columbia Childcare is open! Childcare is available at Columbia Elementary School for children 3 years old through 5th grade. Childcare cost is $32 per day for 5 or more hours, $25 for 2-5 hours, and $12 for 1-2 hours per day. We offer a 25% sibling discount.
