District Champions with soccer ball and trophy on image of soccer field

The Columbia Central Golden Eagles Boys Soccer Team are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS once again! On Wednesday, October 21, the Golden Eagles battled the Clinton Redwolves at Milan High School in the MHSAA District Championship, coming away with a thrilling 1-0 victory to claim their second consecutive district title!

Columbia struck in the first half when senior captain Eli Hawley delivered a beautiful long ball from midfield over the Clinton defense to the left corner. Senior David Munro raced onto the pass, slipped past a defender along the end line, and squeezed an incredible shot between the goalkeeper and the near post to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead! Columbia's defense was outstanding in the opening half, holding the Redwolves to just ONE shot on goal!

Clinton came out determined in the second half, turning up the pressure and firing seven shots toward the Columbia goal. But junior goalkeeper Zach Schultz rose to the challenge, making five crucial saves to preserve the shutout! The Golden Eagles created several excellent opportunities to extend their lead, but in the end, Munro's first-half strike was all they needed as Columbia's defense stood strong until the final whistle!

With the victory, Columbia Central captures its second straight District Championship, accomplishing the feat for the first time since the Golden Eagles won consecutive titles in 2017 and 2018!

NEXT STOP: REGIONALS!

The Golden Eagles now turn their attention to a tough Regional Semifinal matchup against state-ranked Grosse Ile as they continue their postseason journey next Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 PM at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Pontiac, MI.
