Beginning in the 2025–2026 school year, Columbia Central Junior/Senior High School will no longer host traditional parent/teacher conference nights as part of our regular school calendar.

This decision comes after thoughtful consideration of:

  • Low attendance trends at scheduled conferences

  • Increased use of real-time communication tools (such as email, Rooms via Thrillshare, PowerSchool, and Google Classroom)

  • A shift toward ongoing, personalized communication between families and staff throughout the year

Instead of designated conference nights, we will emphasize:

  • Timely academic updates via PowerSchool.

  • Flexible parent-teacher communication, including scheduled calls, emails, or meetings upon request

  • More frequent classroom updates via Google Classroom to keep you informed

Our goal remains the same: to build strong partnerships between home and school. We believe this flexible, more personalized approach will better meet the needs of both families and staff.

If you would like to schedule a time to speak with your child’s teacher during the year, we encourage you to reach out directly. We are always here to support student success.

As part of our continued efforts to ensure the most effective use of instructional tools and district resources, Columbia Central Junior High will be transitioning away from the 1:1 Chromebook model for students beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.

This decision was made after careful evaluation of student device usage, instructional impact, maintenance costs, and teacher feedback. In many classrooms, shared devices and structured technology integration have proven more effective than daily, individual Chromebook use.

What this means for your student:

  • Devices will still be readily available in classrooms as needed for instruction.

  • Teachers will continue integrating educational technology intentionally and purposefully.

  • Students will no longer take Chromebooks home or carry them between classes.

We remain committed to providing a high-quality, balanced educational experience that emphasizes both academic growth and responsible technology use. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the high school office.

We hope you continue to enjoy a wonderful Michigan summer! With the implementation of the sixth period schedule, there is also a change to "Golden Eagle Hour." This fall, we’re excited to launch an updated version of Golden Eagle Hour, shifting from two days a week to a full five-day model. This new schedule is designed to better support our students’ academic growth, emotional well-being, and engagement. Each day of the week will now have a unique focus, allowing students to benefit from targeted support and meaningful opportunities every day.
Two days a week with be academic focus days. One day will focus on clubs and organizations to meet, one day will focus on social emotional learning, and one day will focus on prepping for the SAT test and career exploration. The name will also change, calling it "Advisory" instead of "Golden Eagle Hour."
More detailed information will come with the welcome back newsletter. Thank you!

As you may start to consider the purchase of clothes for the upcoming 25-26 school year, we want to take a moment to highlight one of our areas of focus: upholding a school dress code that promotes a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. Please take a moment to review the key dress code points below and discuss them with your student before the first day of school: General Clothing Guidelines: Tops must have straps or sleeves and must cover the entire torso from armpit to armpit. Shorts must fully cover the buttocks while sitting or standing. Clothing must not contain images, logos, or messages that are: Obscene, lewd, or sexually explicit Related to illegal substances (including those illegal for minors) Inciting violence or threats Associated with hate groups or hate speech Disruptive to the school environment Additional Expectations: Headwear (hats, hoods, visors, sunglasses, etc.) is not permitted during school hours unless for designated spirit days. Backpacks, coats, and blankets must be stored in lockers and may not be brought into classrooms or the cafeteria. We understand that self-expression is important to students. This policy aims to strike a balance between individuality and the shared responsibility of creating a positive school climate. Thank you for your support in helping our students come to school ready to learn, respectful of others, and responsible for their environment.
