MDE Releases A-F Letter Grading and RatingSystem

Dear Columbia Families:

Recently, the Michigan State Public Act 601 of 2018 was signed into law creating a statewide A-F letter grading system as a measure of school performance. Public schools throughout the state received letter grades in five areas and ranking labels in three, each of which is depicted in the table below.

Columbia Upper Elementary School has been identified as a Reward School for the 2018-2019 school year, earning an A in Student Proficiency as determined by the rate of students earning proficiency on the state M-STEP ELA and Math assessments.

Columbia Upper Elementary School received a B in the area of Student Growth which estimates the rate by which students are on track to reach or maintain proficiency on the state M-STEP ELA and Math assessment within three years.

When proficiency was compared to that of other schools with similar demographics throughout the state, Columbia Upper Elementary School’s Performance Among Peers rating was a B.

Columbia Upper Elementary School was also rated Significantly Above Average in the categories of Student Subgroup Performance and Assessment Participation and Above Average in Attendance

I am proud of our efforts. As Golden Eagles, we will continue to soar in the pursuit of excellence!

Sincerely,

Jennifer VanWagnen, Principal
