Dear Columbia Elementary School Families,

Educational partnerships make a positive difference. The teachers and staff at Columbia Elementary are 100% committed to your child’s educational success. It is our mission to support your child in whatever way possible. Columbia Elementary is fortunate to have excellent staff and resources to support students and their families. Remember, “Working together makes a difference in the lives of our students”. We know you share this huge investment in your child’s education, so please make it a priority to communicate with your child’s teachers. Be sure to ask what is being taught and how you can best support the learning at home.

Columbia Elementary is a pre-school through the second-grade building which allows us to really focus on early literacy and provide the differentiation and interventions to ensure every student is on-level at the beginning of third grade. To support this concept, we have two full-time Reading Recovery teachers and last year with support from a literacy grant, we added support in kindergarten. I am proud to announce, beginning this fall we are adding an interventionist at the second-grade level. What great support for our kindergarten, first and second graders!

The 2018-2019 school year will include many opportunities for parents to volunteer their time and skills. I encourage you to take advantage of this unique time to share in your child’s life and become active at Columbia Elementary. Research indicates that parent involvement is the key to student success. Why not join the CES PTO, become an adult mentor in Brooklyn Buddies or volunteer in your child’s classroom? I welcome every parent to become involved and make a difference at CES!

Thanks to those of you who committed time to CES this past year, I look forward to working with you again! If we have yet to meet, please be sure to stop by CES and attend our Back to School Bash/Open House, as I’m looking forward to meeting you and connecting with all our families. This will allow me to better serve all the students and teachers at Columbia Elementary.

Welcome to Columbia Elementary and to a great school year!
