STEP #1: At the District Administration
Office
The process
for admission to Columbia School District is initiated by a visit to the
Administration Office located
at Columbia High School, 11775 Hewitt Road. Those planning to enroll their
children should call the District
Administration Office at (517) 592-6641.
REQUIREMENTS
Children entering kindergarten
must be 5 years old by December 1st of the school year. Parents enrolling
kindergarten students are required to present birth certificate. All new
enrollees must present proof of residence
within the Columbia School District. (Tax bill, deed of trust, rental/lease
agreement or similar document.) Proof of immunization is required, or
a waiver signed by the parent in its place. The Columbia School District
is a participant in the Schools of Choice program. Non-resident students
will be admitted if the proper paperwork and timelines are met. Admission
forms and further details can be obtained at the District Administration
Office. Admittance under this program will be base on enrollment figures
at the particular grade levels and availability of room.
SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT
The Columbia School District
has two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, alternative
high
school, preschool programs, adult education (GED completion) and community
education opportunities. At the
elementary level, students are assigned to a particular building based
on the location of your residence and the
school attendance boundaries. Please contact the Administration Office
for this information at (517) 592-6641.

STEP #2: At the School
Registration is completed at
the assigned school.
EARLY REGISTRATION FOR KINDERGARTENERS
Do you know a family whose child
will be entering kindergarten? Help us let them know about Kindergarten
Roundup. Each spring, we encourage parents to pre-register their kindergarteners
for the coming
year. This helps us to plan our school staff needs and provides parents
with important information to prepare for that crucial first year of school.
Usually held for three to four days in April. Call the District Administration
Office or the elementary buildings for more details. (Requirements to
register include proof of hearing and vision testing.)
